K-Effect –The Triumph of Doctor No/Metaloxide

For their second release, eclectics take a globetrotting approach, first landing in Spain for inspiration – more precisely Toledo, where K-Effect serve up two stunning originals.

First up is, The Triumph of Dr. No may appear, at first, to be a more halting and tentative beast, but its real intent soon becomes clear as it gains momentum: exotic promise, dusky beats and just a dash of John Barry, shaken, not stirred. It’s louche and laid back, but don’t expect to be able to zone out – this is music to listen to, music that demands your attention, music that justifies your attention.

For the remix, they've popped over to Albania , as Tirana’s Uj Pa Gaz takes charge of remix duties. Gently brushed beats give way to deep bass and hidden depths, where the track finds some anchorage. This is stability however, not inertia, and soon a heavy arpeggio cuts through the waves, giving purpose and position while the electronic squall builds. It’s a perfect storm of a remix, rising and falling and keeping the listener right at the centre of it all.

K-effects second track on the Ep-Metaloxide, which, as the title suggests, is a copper-bottomed classic.

While ferrous flashes of synthesizer shoot by, the insistent, rolling percussion gives way to an acid line that builds without imposing or overwhelming. The foundations are solid, but the roof could be in danger of being taken off.

Next up for the remix we go to Berlin – via Argentina – where El Fulminador, throws caution – and sound limiters – to the wind with an interpretation that ratchets everything up. It’s proof that, while less is sometimes more, more is ALWAYS more. Simply add a decent sound system and a railway arch for maximum dancefloor devastation. It deserves to be as huge as it sounds.
